Where Have All the Job Seekers Gone?
With unemployment continuing to decline, it hasn’t been this low since 2000, the job market has become very competitive. There are actually fewer employees available overall and as a result recruiters and hiring managers are working to expedite the hiring process and to ensure they market their businesses accordingly to target the right candidate for the job.
It’s all about communicating information in the best way, to the right people. It’s important to be consultative with hiring managers, by finding out as much as possible about their business, their company culture, and workplace environment in order to present the best portrayal to potential candidates. It’s a candidate’s market, they can be very choosy about benefits, salary, and workplace.
The other side of the story is that while there may not be as many people out ‘pounding the pavement’ looking for a job, there are those who are unhappily employed. They go into work every day, put in their 8 hours, and in their spare time, they search for that one job that will bring them fulfillment. They search websites, professional boards, talk to friends until the day they see that one posting, the one that calls out to them.
Where have all the job seekers gone? Some are out there wandering and looking for a great job opportunity, and some are sadly biding their time at a dead-end or thankless job until they find the light at the end of their tunnel.
Either way, what you put out there can make the difference when it comes to finding the employee best suited to your company.
